Mrs. Yung Lien Chu, 93, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011.
Mrs. Chu was born 93 years ago on a farm in Hunan Province, China. She spent her early childhood on the farm. During the wartime, she went to Shanghai and spent her teen years there. She was married to General Tze-Ping Chu in Hunan Province during the Chinese-Japanese war. After World War II, she and her husband and her four children went to Taiwan with the Nationalist party. She and her family made their home in Taiwan for the following 38 years before she came to the United States to unite with her children. During these 25 years in the U.S., she stayed most of the time in Kingsport, TN and Atlanta, GA; however she was a world traveler. Mrs. Chu travelled all over the States and other parts of the world and made numerous trips back to Taiwan and China.
She was also very artistic and creative. She was a real model of mankind. Mrs. Chu was a good teacher, friend and mother to all her children. She showed herself in such ways of caring and loving people. She always put other people first. People who knew her loved her smile on her face and the kindness in her heart. She will be missed by many.
Mrs. Chu was a longtime Christian faith believer. She was baptized in the Gansu Province in China 67 years ago. She was blessed fully by her full faith and her religious spirit had significant and profound influence to many people.
She was a homemaker, and yet she devoted her talent in tailoring service throughout her lifetime. She was a strong and independent woman. Yet, she was such a humble person, perfectionist and never showed off her talents.
Mrs. Chu was preceded in death by her husband, General Tze-Ping Chu; her daughters, Hui-In and Chun-Hui; and daughter-in-law, Lo-Lan.
She is survived by her daughter, Shu-Pi and husband Ling-yu Hu of Taiwan; sons, George Chu and wife Vicki of San Diego, CA; Donald Chu and wife Pollin Chu of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Jean Chang and husband Mike Chang of Kingsport, TN; eight grandchildren, Daphane Hu and husband Richard Huang of Taiwan; William Hu and wife Shelley of San Diego, CA; Gerry Chu of Santa Monica, CA; Arthur Chu of Los Angeles, CA; Tom Chu and wife Amy Chu of Atlanta, GA; Richard Chu and wife Lynn Chu of Atlanta, GA; Peter Chang and Samantha Chang of Sacramento, CA; Michelle Chang and fianc Danny Narat of Houston, TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Li-Shiang Huang, Lauren Chu, Audrey Chu, Brandon Chu, Alex Chang, Aiden Chang, and Aaron Chang.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gerald Chin officiating.
