Myrtle Porter, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009.
Born in Kingsport, she moved to Knoxville where she lived for 50 years. Mrs. Porter moved back to Kingsport when she retired from Bell South after 34 years of employment. She enjoyed her retirement traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Velmer Phipps; husband, Joseph Clyde Porter; daughter, Sarah Dianna Porter; granddaughter, Dawn Denise Sisler; and brother, Calvin Hunt.
Surviving are a daughter, Jorita Plowman of Kingsport; son, Ken Porter of Kingsport; five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; five sisters, Margie Hunt of Portland Oregon, Elizabeth Lloyd of North Carolina, Mary Ruth Parton and husband Jerry, Jean Overbay and husband Jennings, and Louise McCracken, all of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thanks to the staff and nurses of Amedisys Hospice.
Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Doyle Castle officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Michael Chaffins, Greg Hillman, Edmond McCracken, Nathan McCracken, Tommy McCracken, and Rachel McCracken.
