Myrtle M. Russell, 98, Kingsport, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Remington House.
Born in Bostic, NC, she moved to Kingsport at the age of 15 and graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1930. She worked in the payroll department for Tennessee Eastman Company from 1930 to 1943 and then was a homemaker.
Myrtle was married to Robert Bob A. Russell for 60 years.
She became a member of First Baptist Church in 1929 and was involved in many organizations including the Hannah Fidelis Sunday School class at the time of her death. In the past, she had worked with the Cradle Roll and various Bible circles. Myrtle was a past matron of Eastern Star OES #198, a member of the Survivors Club of Kingsport and the Echoes Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Russell, parents Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Murray, sister, Maude M. Purcell and brother, Woodrow Murray.
Survivors are son, James R. Russell and wife Suzanne; daughter, Carolyn R. Boggs and husband Harry; one grandson, Rob Russell and wife Wendy; two granddaughters, Melissa Dryden and husband, Allen; Julie Greear and husband, Tom and four great grandchildren, Henry and Dean Dryden, Morgan Russell and Katie Greear. She is also survived by one sister Ferne M. Erwin.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Oak Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.
