Nancy Johnston Jarnagin Harvey, 88, died September 12, 2012, at Holston Valley Medical Center from complications that followed surgery.
Mrs. Harvey was born on November 1, 1923, at Christiansburg, VA, where her father was the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. When he accepted a call to the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, the family moved to this city; they next moved to Bristol, where her father was president of King College. She attended schools in Kingsport and then in Bristol, graduating from Tennessee High School. She then went to Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC, and graduated from the University of Alabama.
She worked at Tennessee Eastman Co. from 1945 until 1948, when she and Herbert Jarnagin were married. In 1951 the couple moved to Dandridge, TN, where she lived until 1992. In that year she and Robert Harvey were married in Kingsport, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport where she was active in its affairs, often serving as a Bible teacher.
Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Pinckney Johnston, Jr., D.D., and Mary Frischkorn Johnston; by her first husband, Herbert Barton Jarnagin; by her brother, T. P. Johnston III; and by her sister, Hunter Johnston White.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Harvey, of Kingsport; by her sister, Alice J. Ballenger, of Charlotte, NC; by her daughter, Mary J. Wray, of Signal Mountain, TN; by her daughter, Elizabeth J. Sanders, of Nashville, TN; by her son, Robert D. Jarnagin, of Dandridge, TN; and by eight grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
