Nancy S. Potente

Nancy S Potente of Kingsport, TN, a retired Guidance Counselor at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, NY entered into rest on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Asbury Health Center, Kingsport, TN.

Daughter of the late Charles and Marie (Fay) Sangaline, she was born November 21, 1932 in East Kingston, N.Y. She graduated from St. Joseph's School and St. Ursula Academy in Kingston and completed undergraduate and graduate studies at SUNY, Albany.

Nancy was married to Louis J. Potente, Jr. in St. Joseph's Church in Kingston, NY on August 16, 1958 and lived in Newburgh, NY. After retirement from the Newburgh City School District, she and her husband formerly resided in Willsboro, NY and Southport, NC.

Nancy taught at North Junior High School for several years prior to raising her family. When the boys grew a bit and were in school she joined the Faculty at NFA, taught English and History and later spent several years as a student counselor.

Nancy was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Sangaline and a sister, Mary Sangaline Mills.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Charles of Hyde Park, NY; her four children, James and his wife, Leanne of Kingsport, TN, Joseph of Bloomington, IL, David and his wife Amy, of Delano, MN, and Peter and his wife, Leslie of Flanders NJ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren she loved dearly Catherine, L. Joseph, and Margaret of TN, Dominic, Anne Marie, Marissa, and Joseph of NJ, and Elizabeth of MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2517 N John B Dennis Hwy, Kingsport, TN 37660, on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Cummins officiating.

The family will hold internment services at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, NY at a later date.
