Nancy Roberts Smith, 95, of Kingsport died on November 1, 2009. Born in Morristown, she had resided in Kingsport for the previous 62 years. Nancy was married to the late Elmer Glenn Smith. She attended Tennessee Wesleyan College, graduated from the University of Tennessee, and received her Masters Degree from East Tennessee State University. She taught in the Kingsport City School system and was a former principal of Dickson Elementary. After retirement, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Smith had been an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Carole Smith Lacy and son-in-law, Eric of Greenville, SC; son, Dr. David Glenn Smith and daughter-in-law, Dr. Janet Shibamoto-Smith of Davis, CA; grandchildren, Flannery Smith Hawkins of Sacramento, CA, Dr. John Lacy of Greenville, SC, and Elizabeth Lacy, also of Greenville, SC; step-grandchildren Erica Zizak, Elk Grove, CA, and Reizo Shibamoto, also of Elk Grove, CA; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 12, 2010a"which would have been Mrs. Smith's 96th birthdaya"in the chapel of First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Weikel officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the memorial service at the church.
