Nancy Anderson Walsh

Nancy Anderson Walsh, 92, formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, died Monday, December 7, 2009, in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she had lived for the past several years.

Nancy was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina, and lived most of her adult life in Charlotte. She was active at First United Methodist Church in Charlotte, where she taught weekday kindergarten, served as one of the first women on the Administrative Board, served on various committees, and attended regularly. She was one of the charter members and leaders of Thursdays at First, a crafts and service program for senior citizens. Her family liked to say, "If the church doors were open, she was there."

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Arnold Walsh; her brothers John Robert Anderson and Joel Franklin Anderson; her sisters Janie Anderson Parsons and Harriett Anderson Stovall; and by two great-grandchildren, Stephen Kreul and Seth Kreul.

She is survived by three daughters: Nancy Walsh Blackwell of Charlotte; Barbara Dodson Kirkpatrick of Huntsville, AL; and Frankie Dodson Wolff of Jonesborough, TN; eight grandchildren: Richard Johnston, Tim Richardson, Joni Richardson Kreul, and Rebecca Walsh Madej; Karen Kirkpatrick Kennedy and Susan Kirkpatrick Smith; Richard Stiles Darlington, III and Robert Scott Darlington; 14 great-grandchildren: Ashton Johnston, Eli, Joel and Jacob Smith; Luke and Levi Richardson; Matthew, Grace, and Timothy Kreul; Jack Darlington; Jessica and Jared Darlington; Ella and Benjamin Madej.

A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 11, 2009, at 1 pm at First United Methodist Church in Charlotte with the Reverend Eddie Ingram, the Reverend James Trollinger, and her son-in-law, the Reverend Edward S. Wolff officiating. The family will receive visitors at a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Nancy's memory to First United Methodist Church, 501 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
