KINGSPORT – Nancy Ball Ward, age 86, of Colonial Heights and Kingsport passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
She was born in Jonesville, VA on October 25, 1932. She was the daughter of Martin and Clara Couk Ball. Nancy lost her parents before age two and was raised along with her brother, Charles Harold Ball, by her grandmother, Vesta Couk, of Jonesville, VA. Her special cousin Sarita Marlin spent many months with Nancy. She was pre-deceased by her brother and grandmother.
She graduated from Jonesville H.S. in 1950 and from Emory & Henry College in 1954 with a degree in accounting. She first worked for the State of Virginia and the University of Alabama. She started her own business of trophies and awards in 1970 and operated it for over 25 years as Tommy’s Trophies. She provided awards products for four states and countries in Central America, as well as Europe.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Davis Ward, her son Thomas Ward of San Francisco, CA, daughter Lynda Ward and her husband Steve Brey of Fayetteville NC, granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Ward of Napa, CA, grandson Matthew Ward of Montreal Canada, and granddaughter Melany Brey of Fayetteville, NC, brother & sister-in-law Ural and Betty Ward of Surgoinsville, TN and sister-in-law Dois Ball of Lexington, SC.
Calling hours will be from 5pm to 7pm Sunday, March 17, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN. A memorial service will follow with services conducted by Pastor Reverend Chris Brown of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at Holston Conference United Methodist Church Cemetery at Emory, VA on Wednesday, March 20th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, 631 Lebanon Rd., Kingsport, TN 37663, where she was a member.
