Nannie Byington Thomas, 77, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Wexford House. Born in Sullivan County, TN on April 6, 1936, a daughter of the late Elmer and Alpha Nelms Byington, she was a resident of Richmond, VA for 20 years, returning to this area in 1970. She will always be remembered as a giver, more than a taker. Nannie attended Glenwood Church, Hiltons, VA. She was a retired LPN, having worked at Hillside Manor (Holston Manor).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her two sisters, Jean and Mary, niece, Danita, who so diligently cared for her and her caregiver, Peggy Casey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Don Gibbs; her second husband, Hubert Thomas; brothers, Verlie Byington and Grady Byington; and sister, Sue Mason.
Nannie is survived by her sisters, Jean Ketron and husband, Joe of Kingsport, Eliza Hale and husband, Earl of Bulls Gap, TN, and Mary Phillips and husband, Sherrill of Kingsport; brothers, Earl Byington of Surgoinsville, TN, and David Byington of Bulls Gap, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Rev. Ronnie Horne and Rev. Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Ross Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery.
