Nataleen Shoemaker Hawkins

Hawkins, Nataleen Shoemaker Hawkins - age 90, of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on September 10, 2017. Nataleen was born November 1, 1926 in the Yuma section of Scott County, Virginia, where she spent her childhood, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1944. She married Maynard Hawkins on June 8, 1946 after his return from service in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. In 1955 they moved to Kingsport where they lived for many years raising their three children. Nataleen was an active member of Mafair United Methodist Church since 1959 and was employed by Tennessee Eastman, Mafair Church Kindergarten and Kingsport City Schools before her retirement. She was an independent and spirited lady blessed with a great memory for details. She enjoyed traveling with her husband after their retirement and spending time with her beloved grand-children and many good friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Maynard Hawkins; her parents, John Wilkerson and Mary Arnold Shoemaker; six brothers, John, Rhea, Walter, Gordon, Howard, and David Shoemaker; three half- brothers, Will, Paul and Hiram Shoemaker; two half- sisters, Letitia Shoemaker Faust and Zelma Lawson Bailey.

Nataleen is survived by daughter, Susie Hawkins of Atlanta; son, Joe (Lucy), granddaughters, Hannah and Kelly Hawkins of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Nancy Ramsey, granddaughter Katie (Ryan) Ford of Knoxville, and grandson Ben Ramsey of Nashville; 8 nephews and 3 nieces.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 14 at Mafair United Methodist Church in Kingsport, TN. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 PM with Reverends Amy Rollins-Probst and Don Nation officiating. Interment will be in Holston View Cemetery following the service.
