Nathan Woodson Calloway, 86, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, July 3, 2010 after several years of declining health.

Nathan was born on June 18, 1924 and grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was the son of the late George and Hattie Calloway. He served in the United States Army during World War II where he received a Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and one Bronze Star GO 23.

Nathan married Viola Wooten his loving and devoted wife of 66½ years in 1942. They have three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Nathan owned a small business, Calloway's TV and Radio, for many years prior to his employment at Holston Defense Corporation. He retired from Holston Defense Corporation in 1979.

Nathan was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he and Viola produced the weekly church bulletin for many years.

His parents, four brothers, and three sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife of 66½ years, Viola; his son, Phillip "Woody" Calloway of West Hills, California; his daughters, Nancy Wagner and husband, Russell of Fairbanks, Alaska and Cynthia Lawson of Gray, Tennessee; his brother, Joel Calloway; his grandchildren, Kimberly Calloway, Melissa Graening, Shelley Whitener, Buffy Wilmoth, Robert and Michael Lawson; and his great-grandchildren, Alex and Travis Graening, Zachary and Camden Whitener, Foster and Auburn Wilmoth.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 5 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The family may also be visited at the home of Cindy Lawson at 123 Lake Harbor Drive, Gray, TN on Sunday and Monday.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Posts #3/265.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Wexford House and Amedisys Hospice for the care and concern shown to Nathan and his family.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 113, Johnson City, TN 37604.
