Neil Conkin, 92, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Monday, January 5, 2009, at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. He was also a member and Deacon at Walker's Fork Missionary Baptist Church and a fifty year member of Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 274 F & AM, Fall Branch. Mr. Conkin retired from Eastman Kodak following 41 years of service.
His wife of 65 years, Vada Conkin, preceded him in death in March, 2006.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Nelms and husband Wallace of Kingsport; one son, Dana Conkin and wife Judy of Kingsport; one grandson, Anthony Grills and wife Sandi of Kingsport; two great-grandsons, Caleb Grills and Riley Grills; and two brothers, Harlan Conkin and Eugene Conkin, both of Kingsport.
The family would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to their father's caregivers, Phyllis Landwerth, Lindsey Blakley, Tammy Baker, Evelyn McConnell, Rosie Leonard, and Carolyn Dunn for their loving care and kindness. They became a part of his family.
Receiving of friends will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Johnson Masonic Lodge No. 274 F. & AM, Fall Branch. Funeral services will immediately follow with Rev. John Crawford officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Walker's Fork Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Conkin, Dennis Conkin, George Bragg, Glen Bragg, Doug Light, and Ralph Littleton.
