Nell Brickey Sumner

Nell Brickey Sumner, age 87, of Nashville, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville. Born in Ft. Blackmore, Virginia on September 25, 1930, she spent most of her life in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Nell was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Princess. Nell loved planting fruits and vegetables and delighted in watching them grow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sumner; her parents, Corbett and Ruby Brickey; her sisters, Irene Neal, Norma Bowen, Una V. Hilton; and her brother, O'dell Brickey.

Nell is survived by her daughters, Paula Slaughter, Sanja Dalley (Steve), Donna Kearfott (Bob); son, Dan Sumner (Nikki); nine grandchildren, Sarah Rice (Jonas), Amy Sizemore (Jack), Tommy Dalley (Wendy), Jodi Berry (John), Lea Capleanor (Ben), Parker Jones-Kearfott, Jorden Kearfott, Foster Kearfott and Paul Sumner; eight great-grandchildren, Madeleine Yeary, Olivia Rice, Grant Rice, Ty Dalley, Jackson Sizemore, Davis Berry, Reagan Capleanor, and Reed Capleanor and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Smith officiating.

Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy Dalley, Parker Jones-Kearfott, Jorden Kearfott, Foster Kearfott, Grant Rice, Ty Dalley, and Paul Sumner. Honorary pallbearers are Jackson Sizemore, Davis Berry and Reed Capleanor.
