Nella (Nell) Mae (Dean) Carter, 96, of Youngsville, NC, formally Mt. Carmel, TN, went home to be with Jesus and her family, Friday, September 23, 2016. She was the daughter of Charles and Martha Dean. Nell and Jess were members of Lewis Lane Baptist Church, where Kenny Hammond served as pastor until his retirement. Nell loved gospel music and her favorite hymn was "Way Faring Stranger." She and Jess loved and respected Pastor Hammond.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, Jess B. Carter; daughter, Faye (Carter) Gryder; and sons, Gary Carter and Allen Carter.
Nell is survived by her sisters, Georgia Horton and Helen (Claude) Lawson; son-in-law, Michael Gryder; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, with Pastor Tim Nelson and Rev. Kenny Hammond officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carmel. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to Michael Gryder for his devotion and loving care he has given to Nell throughout her illness.
