Nellie Vivian Johnson, born in Kingsport in 1923 to Arthur and Gladys Smith, died Friday, February 23, 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nellie lived in Kingsport most all her life, but moved to Las Vegas in 2001. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and had worked at Eastman Chemical Company prior to going into banking.
She retired from AmSouth Bank where she had worked for many years and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Nellie and her husband loved to travel, and they made many trips all over the world. They lived a rich and full life and will be missed.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Claude in 1999; a daughter, Leslie Hillier, a sister, Ruth Gilliam; a brother, John Wesley Smith; and parents, Arthur and Gladys Smith.
Surviving are her son, Scott Johnson, who lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Margaret, and their two children, Tyler and Anna; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mildred and Buster Rutledge and Mabel Jennings, all of Kingsport; a brother, A. M. Smith Jr., Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
