Nickolas Drakos, 91, of Kingsport died Saturday evening, October 16, 2010 after a brief illness. Born in Pontiac, MI, he attended Wayne University in Detroit, MI. He then served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed in Jacksonville, FL. and was Postmaster of the Naval Post Office. Nick then received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He moved to Kingsport in 1950 and worked for the Charles Department Store. Nick then opened the Kingsport Hat Shop which later became Nick's Western Shop and this business thrived for 25 years. He played 2nd violin on the Kingsport Symphony for 32 years. Nick loved golf, table tennis, and dancing, including western and round dancing. He was a member of Gold Star Fitness and loved exercising. Nick was also a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bluff City.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife: Elizabeth Drakos, parents: Danes and Evangeline Drakos; two brothers, one sister and one grandson: Marshall Atkinson.
Surviving are his daughter: Nancy Atkinson of Mesa, AZ; son: Tony Drakos of Kingsport; seven grandchildren: Brian, Sandy, Stella, Sophia, Anastasia, Nicholas and Ramona Elizabeth; as well as four great-grandchildren; sisters: Lula SanFacon and Teddie Karakos of MI; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bluff City with Father Demetrious Iliou officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
