Nina Ryan Smith, 82, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Washington County, Tennessee, and resided in Sullivan County most of her life. Nina retired from Rental Uniform Company and was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert McCray; her parents, James L. Roy Ryan and Ada Hamilton Ryan; brothers, Beryl, Frank, and Lee Ryan; a stepson, Gary Smith; and a stepdaughter, Joyce Stallard.
Surviving are her loving husband and caregiver, George Smith of the home; stepchildren, Dale Smith and wife Kathy of Yuma, Virginia, Brenda Salyer and husband Tony of Kingsport, Teresa Jennings and husband Randy of Kingsport; sisters, Edith Maden of Kingsport, Margaret Gilreath of Kingsport; a brother, Lewis Ryan of Rockford, Illinois; special sisters-in-law, Pearl Ryan, Eileen Ryan, Bea Maness; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, and at the home of George Smith, 653 Proffitt Lane, Kingsport.
The body of Mrs. Smith will be taken to Fordtown Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Bryan Moore officiating. Singing will be by the Fordtown Baptist Church Choir and Lee Smith Singers.
Graveside services will follow at Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Holston Manor formerly SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside and Amedisyst Hospice for the care they gave Nina. Also a special thanks to Mozelle Garber and Rosie Gilder for always being there for the family.
