Norman Lee Hill, 72, of Kingsport, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Avondale, NC, he resided in Statesville, NC, and Queens, NY, before moving to Kingsport in 2006. He was a graduate of Morningside High School in Statesville, NC. Mr. Hill retired from the Iredell-Statesville School System in North Carolina and drove for Lewis Taxi in Statesville as well.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie E. Bristol; sisters, Orzina Smith and Christeen Black; and brother, Jimmy Carpenter.
He is survived by a daughter, Kiesha Hill and a grandson, Gregory Graham, both of Flushing, NY; sisters Evelyn Avery Logan, Mary Stanford Treece, and Cleo Arthur Charles, all of Kingsport; brothers, James Henry, Clifton Leslie Carpenter, and William Carpenter, all of Kingsport, and Richard Henry of Nashville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church or anytime at the home of the sister, Mary Treece. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Pearson officiating.
Graveside services will follow the funeral at Holston View Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
