Norman G. "Bud" Templeton, 75, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Thursday evening, April 3, 2008, at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Kingsport where he had resided most of his life. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a 2nd Lieutenant Navigator in a B-29 Bombing Wing. Bud received several medals for his service and flew over 50 missions during the Conflict. He worked in printing and paper sales most of his working life. Bud was passionate about the University of Tennessee and was a longtime supporter of their athletic programs. He was also an avid golfer and a member of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church.
His father and mother, Charles James Templeton and Lou Verna Larkin Templeton; first wife, Charlene Talbert Templeton; and two sisters, Betty T. Deal and Judy T. Marshall preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Rhea Templeton of the home; a daughter, Lesley Ann Templeton Geldrich and fiancé Rod Colter of O'Fallon, Missouri; two sons, Norman G. Templeton II and wife Wendy A. of Knoxville, Sean G. Templeton and fiancée Ashley of the home; one stepdaughter, Sonya Sams and husband Richard of Jonesborough; six grandchildren, Ian, Sarah, Will, and Aaron Templeton and Nicholas and Helen Geldrich; two step-grandchildren, Corey Levin and Whitney Sams; one sister, Margaret T. Ketron and husband Bill; nephew, Senator Bill Ketron Jr. and wife Teresa; niece, Anne Ketron Daniel, all of Murfreesboro; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Hambrick officiating. Graveside services will follow at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #3/265.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders of Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church.
