Ofa Olivia Simpson Conkin Hicks, 90, of Kingsport, died Thursday morning, December 6, 2012, at Elmcroft Assisted Living. She was a life long resident of Sullivan County. Ofa was a 1941 graduate of Sullivan High School. She had worked at the Kingsport Press and Holston Valley Hospital. Ofa was a member of Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earnest Conkin; second husband, Thomas D. Hicks; parents, Wilford and Iona Barrett Simpson; three brothers, Donald Simpson and wife, Louise, Paul Simpson, and Ivy Simpson and wife, Barbara; and nieces, Sharon Simpson Patterson and Kristen Simpson Meyer.
Ofa is survived by her brother, Toy Earl Simpson and wife, Karon; sister-in-law, Dorothy Simpson; brother-in-law, Onnie Conkin and wife, Mae; nieces, Glenda Wright, Kim Honaker and Tonya Wolfe; nephews, Donald Wayne Simpson, Scotty Simpson and Tony Simpson; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, from 4-6:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport or at anytime at the home of brother, Toy Earl Simpson. Funeral services will follow visitation at 6:00 pm with Dr. Tim Perry and Rev. Bob Cloud officiating. Music will be provided by Alan Mahaffey.
Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, December 9th at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Harvey Davis III, David Barrett, Wayne "Buddy" Goad, Charles E. Barrett, Joseph Barrett and John H. "Johnny" Barrett.
