Ona N. Cox Long, 90, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully Friday evening, August 8, 2008 at Wexford House.
Ona was born in Greene County on February 19, 1918. After her marriage to Bill Long, they moved to California where she enjoyed a career of 28 years with Chubb & Son Insurance Company. She and Bill returned to Kingsport after retirement.
She attended Kingsport Community Church. Ona was an avid traveler, enjoyed hosting family holiday meals, and discussing her travels. She also enjoyed sharing her extensive plate collection with visitors.
Ona was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William "Bill" Long; parents, Emory M. and Linnie Cox; four brothers, Claude, Fred, Emory, and Rex Cox; two sisters, Cecile Cox Quillen and Hazel Cox Evans; and one great-grandson.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Edith Long of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Kathy Grimsley of Kingsport, Lee Long of Knoxville, Rick Long and wife Jennifer of Jonesborough, Sherry Messier and husband John of Kingsport, Lisa Lane and husband Orbin "Dog" Lane II of Cookeville, TN, and Dale McReynolds and wife Wendy of Kingsport; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Orbin "Dog" Lane II officiating.
Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Smoky Mountain Health and Hospice, Wexford House, and the visitors from Kingsport Community Church for all their help and support during Ona's illness.
