Opal E. Garland, 85, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born in Scott County, Virginia, she had resided most of her life in Kingsport. Mrs. Garland was a member of Hermon United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Dale W. Garland; one son-in-law, Bobby Gentry; her parents, Perry and Mattie Ketron; three brothers, Willie Ketron, Virgil Ketron, Omer Ketron; and one sister, Juanita Hawkins.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Gentry, Kingsport; one son, Richard Garland, Kingsport; one sister, Caldonia Quillen, Kingsport; one brother, Verlon Ketron, Kingsport; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, R. D. Garland and Carrie Garland, Shady Valley, TN; a sister-in-law, Ann Garland, Ava, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hermon United Methodist Church with Rev. Joel H. Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
