Ora Elizabeth Anderson Donaldson, 92, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Her passing was peaceful and at her home.
Ora was born to Claude Cecil and Estelle Wheeler Anderson in Kite, Georgia on February 14, 1920, where she, sister Louise, and brother Claude Jr. Buddy were raised.
During World War II, Ora worked as a civilian employee for IBM as a keypunch machine operator at the Fort McPherson Army Post in East Point, Georgia outside of Atlanta. While in Atlanta, she met Raymond Edwin Donaldson, a World War II veteran and student at Emory University. The two married on February 15, 1946 and moved to Kingsport in 1949 with their two daughters, Brenda Louise and Dianne Elizabeth.
Ora was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Kingsport. She was an avid University of Tennessee football fan and loved crafting needlepoint for her family and friends. She loved square dancing with her husband and was known and praised for her traditional Southern cooking. She was a member of several local bridge clubs and played regularly for over 60 years. Ora loved and took great pride in her family, especially looking forward to family gatherings and vacations. She will be remembered as a treasured friend, beloved mother, and adored grandmother.
Ora was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and her daughter, Dianne Donaldson Hamblen of Oak Ridge. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Donaldson of Kingsport; her granddaughter Elizabeth L. Hamblen of Chattanooga, granddaughter Sarah R. Hamblen of Christiansburg, Virginia, son-in-law Sam E. Hamblen of Oak Ridge and nephew, Larry Price of Dublin, Georgia.
A short service will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport on Sunday, October 28 at 2:00PM with Dr. Ronald David and Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. The family will gather with friends an hour before the service. Burial will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ora's memory to the First Baptist Church, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the charity of one's choice.
