Oscar D. Bishop, 93, of Blountville, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
He was born October 4, 1917 in Scott County, VA to the late William and Cora Bishop. Oscar was an active member of the Island Rd. Evangelist Methodist Church where he sung bass in the Island Road Quartet. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Corporation in 1980 after 41 years of service. Oscar was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Audie Hopkins Bishop, Carl Bishop; sisters, Alice Mae Moore, Ora Bishop Aesque, Madgie Bishop Taylor and Lou Etta Bishop Smith.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Marie B. Bishop of the home; daughters, Janice Fields and husband, Dale of Blountville, Pam Lane and husband Terry of Blountville, Patricia Davis and husband, Larry of Blountville; ten grandchildren: Jeffery and wife Ronda, Michael and Jody, Shauni and husband Scott, Kristi and husband Joel, Miles and wife Renee, Mark and wife Samantha, Amber and husband Brad, Amanda and husband Gil, Rachael and husband, Davin, and Lindsey; four great-grandchildren: Kayla, Elliott, Natalie, Ivey; sister Pauline Bishop Puckett of Kingsport along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. L.D. Lane officiating. The service will begin at 7 pm with music provided by Harold and Katy Ball. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
