Otis Eugene Horton, 76, Kingsport, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Greystone Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family following an extended period of declining health.
Otis was born in the Stanley Valley area of Hawkins County to the late John L. and Callie Jenkins Horton.
He was an employee of Horton Welding and Repair for 38 years. Earlier Otis worked at several local service stations.
Otis attended First Christian Church of Kingsport. He was an Auxiliary member of the Tenneva Pioneer Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nephews, Chris Horton and Randell Blair; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil D. and Willie Pickering Ward.
He is survived by his wife of 54 ½ years, Willie Ward Horton; two sisters, Vergie Blair Denver of Kingsport and Sue Stapleton James of Mount Carmel; two brothers, James P. Horton Drusilla of Church Hill and Charles H. Horton Peggy of Kingsport; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church. Services will follow with Phillip Sams, Minister officiating. Interment will be at the Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Jonesborough.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Hartsock, Carl Skelton, and Bobby Joe Hyatt.
