Pastor Lonnie "Buddy" Wooten Jr

Pastor Lonnie "Buddy" Wooten, Jr., 84, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following complications due to a stroke. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport where he had lived in the West View Community.

He served as pastor of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Church Hill, since 1961. He formerly had pastored at Mountain Home Baptist Church, Johnson City, and Macedonia Baptist Church, Blountville, TN.

Lonnie was married to Lillian Hammonds Wooten, the love of his life for 58 years. He preached the gospel of grace for 70 years and pastored for 65 years. The joy of his life was loving people and serving them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Hammonds Wooten; infant son, Lonnie Steven Wooten; parents, Lonnie and Bridgett Wooten; and one sister, Marjorie Kilgore.

Lonnie is survived by two sons, Joel Wooten and wife, Elizabeth, Church Hill, and Mark Wooten and wife, Pam, Mount Carmel; four grandchildren, Jeremy Wooten and wife, Sarah, Stephen Wooten, Andy Wooten and wife, Amy, and John Wooten and wife, Tabitha; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby, Nicole, Jonah, Alaina, Abel, Charlie Belle, and Emeline Joy; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 309 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Church Hill, TN 37642.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7 p.m.

The graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Joel Wooten, Mark Wooten, Jeremy Wooten, Stephen Wooten, Andy Wooten, and John Wooten.
