Patsy Louise Kern, 80, Kingsport, went to be with her Lord and her God Tuesday night, July 15, 2008 at her home.
Born in Roda, VA, she formerly resided in Rye Cove and Dante, VA, and presently was living in Kingsport. Mrs. Kern was a devoted Christian, a loving mother to her seven children, and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener.
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Allie Bishop; husband of forty three years, Charles E. Kern; brother, Kelly Bishop; and sister, Yvonne Barrow.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanie Wampler and husband David of Kingsport; six sons, Dennis Kern of Annandale, VA, Phillip Kern of Rosedale, VA, Pat Kern and wife Linda of Sumter, SC, Tony Kern and wife Sharon of Vale, NC, Jim Kern of Kingsport, and David Kern and wife Cindy of Kingsport; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Bishop and wife Jean of Kingsport, W. D. Bishop and wife Delilah of Castlewood, VA, and Gerald Bishop and wife Joretta of Elyria, OH; and special friends, Marie Jennings, Frances Bays, and Juanita Bowen.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. David Franzus.
Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Services will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Dr. Cecil Sturgill officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Kern, Phillip Kern, Pat Kern, Tony Kern, David Kern, David Wampler, Ryan Kern, and Aaron Kern.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeanie Wampler, Jim Kern, Jim Bishop, W. D. Bishop, and Gerald Bishop.
