Paul Dean, 72, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday March 2, 2008 at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, TN, after a lengthy illness.
He was a graduate of Lynn View High School in 1953. Paul attended Berea College and then the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He received his B.S. from Indiana Technical College and his Masters from ETSU.
Mr. Dean retired from IBM after 33 years of service. He was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, and the Upper Room Sunday School Class. He was a past Deacon at Colonial Heights and Lynn Garden Presbyterian Churches.
Paul was a board member for Goodwill and the Salvation Army. He served on the State of Tennessee's Rehabilitation Services Council with Gov. Sundquist and the State of Tennessee Traumatic Brain Injury Board. Mr. Dean also participated in Meals-on-Wheels. He was an avid hiker and tennis player.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Ermal Dean; brother, Frankie Dean; and special nephew, Glen Dean.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Earldean Dean; daughters, Kathy Bailey and husband, Jerry, Manchester, TN, and Katrina Willingham and husband, Brad, Kingsport; son, Lenny Dean, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Erica and Kayla Bailey and Brandon, Justin, and Jordan Willingham; sisters, Colleen Shriver and husband, Jerry, Patsy Riner and husband, Claude, Carol Nelda Jessee, all of Kingsport, and Beotta Cudebec and husband, Kim, Orlando, FL; brother, Harold Dean and wife, Joan, Damascus, VA; brothers-in-law, Tom Wells and wife, Julia, Jim Wells and wife, Janet, Dan Wells and wife, Delores; sister-in-law, Linda Miller and husband, Johnny; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends immediately following the service with the Reverend Angela Hardy Cross and Pastor David Salley officiating.
Private family graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Willingham, Justin Willingham, Jordan Willingham, Brad Willingham, Jerry Bailey, and Harold Dean. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Wells, Dan Wells, Tom Wells, Claude Riner, LeRoy Jessee, Johnny Miller, Jerry Shriver, and Kim Cudebec.
