Paul R. Fischer, 93, of Kingsport formerly of Portsmouth, VA, passed away February 15, 2010, at Wellington Place Assisted Living. He was born on September 4, 1916, in Dorchester, Virginia. He attended school in Norton, VA, and graduated from Norton High School. Mr. Fischer attended Cecil's Business College in Asheville, NC, and served in the Army during World War II. He retired from the Portsmouth Ship Yard. In his younger days, Mr. Fischer was an avid fisherman and an enthusiastic fan of the Tidewater Tides baseball team. He enjoyed spending time at Nags Head, NC, with his friends and family.
Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Fischer, Sr. and Paulina Fischer; brothers, Joe Fischer, John Fischer, Frank Fischer, Jr., and Charles Fischer; sister, Virginia Youell; and his very special, longtime friend and fishing buddy, Margaret Wellener.
He is survived by nephews Jim Fischer of Kingsport, Johnny Lynn Fischer of Houston, TX, and Chuck Fischer of Seattle, WA; nieces, Pauline Wells of Stephens City, VA, and Ann Williams of Richmond, VA; and several great-nephews and one great-niece.
At his request, he will be cremated. A family service will be held at a later date.
