Paul Summey, 62, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 28, 2008, after a brief illness.
He was a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Paul was employed at Fluor Daniels and was a former employee of Ball Brothers Furniture Company in Kingsport and Rogersville. He never met a stranger and was a "daddy" to many. Paul and his wife were foster parents for 30 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Eve Summey; two brothers, Gene and Jack Summey; and a sister, Lois Rhoten.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Glenda Jones Summey, Kingsport; three daughters and a son-in-law, Missy Summey, Meleah Harrell, Mandy and Michael Ford, all of Kingsport; one son, Mark Summey of Blountville; grandsons, Dustin Ford, Seth Harrell, Ethan Ford, and Brady Ford; granddaughters, Abby Ford, Carly Brooks, Maci Brooks, and his special "baby girl" Chelsea Hammonds; two sisters, Bobbie Jo Quillen and Mary Lane, both of Kingsport; one brother, Mack Summey, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his best companion, Cherokee.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at West Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Wes Rankin and Rev. Lawrence E. Wolfe officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rick Summey, Gary Rhoten, Tim Rhoten, Billy Rhoten, Terry Quillen, Jon Summey, Richard Lane, and Johnny Hodge.
