Pauline Ruth Thornburg

Pauline Ruth Thornburg, 90, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her residence, with family by her side.

Pauline was born on June 27, 1933, to parents, William and Mary Darnell in Kingsport. Pauline graduated from Fall Branch High School and would go on to receive her degree in nursing from Greeneville Vocational School. She pursued her career as an LPN until she ultimately retired from the work force. Pauline married W.M. “Sleepy” Thornburg on her birthday in 1953 and they went on to have five children together, four daughters and one son. A member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Pauline actively attended for as long as she was able to. Known as a bookworm, she could always be found reading; she also spent much time tending to her garden, paying special attention to her tomato plants and flowers. Anyone close to Pauline knew that she was spunky and had a feisty demeanor, which made her the lovable woman she was. She loved her family unconditionally, especially her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is without a doubt that Pauline will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, W.M. “Sleepy” Thornburg; five brothers; two sisters and one grandson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kathy Longworth (Ricky), Jeff Thornburg (Brenda), Peggy Thornburg, Vickey Pittman (Keith) and Lissa Morrison (Scott); sister, Betty Jean Collins; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7:00pm with Pastor Ryan Shaffer officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 11:00am at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive at the cemetery by 10:45am.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.
