Peggy Jane (Osborne) Mellons, 86, of Mt. Carmel, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, March 30, 2019. Peggy was born in Blackwater, VA, on January 3, 1933 to parents, Orbin and Maxie (Horton) Osborne. She was a longtime member of Blackwater Lick Primitive Baptist Church, and more recently, West View Primitive Baptist Church. Peggy loved God and served Him faithfully. She was a lifelong member of The Osborne Quartet and the West View Quartet. Peggy was a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, and friend. She was kind and thoughtful. Peggy and Dub loved fishing and camping with extended family. She worked alongside her husband as an Exxon representative for many years. They enjoyed many rewards and trips from Exxon for being a top Exxon station before retiring in 1999.
In addition to her parents, Orbin and Maxie (Horton) Osborne, Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Samuel “Dub” Mellons, Jr.; two brothers, John Enoch Osborne and Franklin Delano Osborne; three sisters, Nannie Kate (Osborne) Wallen, Violet Rubena “Bena” Osborne, and Madge (Osborne) Canter.
Peggy is survived by her son, William “Scott” Mellons (Rhonda) of Mt. Carmel, TN; daughter, Lori Trent (Wayne) of Oxford, AL; two grandchildren, William “Andrew” Mellons and Taylor Paige Mellons; one sister, Pauline (Osborne) Lawson; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Elders Burnice Sybert and Oscar Irving officiating.
Graveside services will be at 1p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Lawson, Adam Lawson, Carl Lawson, Jr., Carl Osborne, David Osborne, Alvin Estep, and Randy Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Lawson and Ezra Summey.
The family requests any memorial donations be directed to West View Primitive Baptist Church, 1040 Riverside Avenue, Kingsport, TN 37660.
