Peter Wadewitz, Jr., 55, of Kingsport, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, after a period of declining health.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he had resided in Kingsport since 1971. He was a 1978 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he lettered in wrestling, swimming, and football. Peter was a graduate of Northeast State with an AS Degree. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life. He placed 52nd, 23rd, and his best finish was 12th out of 400 boats in the Sun Fun King Mackerel Tournament in Georgetown, SC. Peter held the South Carolina state record for a black fin tuna for half a day. His favorite fishing spots were off the coast of the Carolinas, panhandle of Florida, Florida Keys, with his cousin in the outer banks, and with his son at Wilbuck Farm.

Peter is survived by his wife, Edithann Wadewitz of the home; one son, Frank Wadewitz of the home; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Peter Wadewitz (Lois), Kingsport; one brother, Martin Wadewitz and wife, Helen, Franklin, NC, and their children, Trey and Dillon; one sister, Gretchen Gindlesperger and husband, Kevin, Oak Ridge, and their children, Seagh and Siobhan Mulligan; mother and father-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Frank J. Buckles, Jr. (Katherine); two brothers-in-law, Ben and Karen Buckles, and their children, Nicholas, Madison, and Caden, and Robert and Kate Buckles, and their children, Mamie and Sally Kate.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The service will be at 2 pm on Sunday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with The Rev. Mickey Rainwater and Dr. Spurgeon McCartt officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
