Phyllis Kay Goins

Phyllis Kay Goins (Aunt Kay), born June 7, 1938, went to her heavenly home peacefully at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Sunday, January 31, 2016, with her family by her side.

She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and was secretary to the manager of Rental Uniform Company, retiring after 26 years of service.

Phyllis was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She sang, traveled and recorded gospel music with the Pleasant View Baptist Church Quartet for several years. She had a beautiful alto singing voice. Phyllis loved the sun, water and beach and was a great swimmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hasten R. Goins and Beulah L. Overbay Goins; nephews, Chad Allen Goins and Jason M. Colley; and brother-in-law, A. Jerry McMurray.

Phyllis is survived by her sisters, Rhonda McMurray Boling and husband, Bob and Brenda G. Colley and husband, Stony; brothers, Larry H. Goins and wife, Tammy and Michael L. Goins; several nieces and nephews, Libby P. Goins Massie and husband, Tracey, Adam J. McMurray and wife, Kim, Todd Goins and Travis Goins; several great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Roger D. Holbrook, Alberta (Pete) and Jack Good; and friend and neighbor, Ruby Simmerly.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

The graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Adam J. McMurray, Todd Goins, Ryker McMurray, Tracey Massie, and friends, Roger Holbrook and Keith Bartley.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to her church, Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Dr., Kingsport, 37664.
