R. Earl Jones

November 14, 1934 -- June 16, 2024

Robert Earl Jones, 89, entered into heaven on Father’s Day, June 16, at his home in Blountville after a long battle with cancer. He was well loved by those who knew him best, especially his wife of 70 years, Jane Garland Jones. Earl was an active member of Emory United Methodist Church, the Gideons Kingsport East Camp, Tennessee Farm Bureau and served as a director of the Sullivan County Farm Bureau for many years. He retired from Holston Army Ammunition Plant, but farming was the job that gave him joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Owen and Carrie Weaver Jones, and a sister, Phyllis Moore. 

In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by his four daughters who loved their dad, Nylene, Robin (Tim) Jones, Janelle (Dave) Poore, and Sherri. He was Papa to four grandchildren, Katie (James) Bickel, Emily (Jon) Kinabrew, David Poore and Audrey Poore; brother to Pat (Gerald) Duncan, and Uncle Earl to his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Kingsport Cancer Center, Smoky Mountain Hospice, and Dr. Zachary Sumpter and staff, for their loving care.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Emory United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. with Susan Arnold officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery with Travis Pierson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Shane Pierson, David Poore, James Bickel, Jon Kinabrew, Dan Gemmell, and John Harkleroad. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Bracken and Richard Lequieu.
