Rachel Pecktol Dykes, 92, died Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2014, in Nashville at Donelson Place Care and Rehabilitation.
She was born in Kingsport where she lived until going to Nashville to be near her son, Mike. Rachel married Ralph Dykes in 1941. She taught school at Lone Star Elementary and later worked at ITT in Gray. She was a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, G. Ralph Dykes (2013); her parents,
Flem Pecktol Sr. and Eva; brother, Henry Pectol; sisters, Frances Hickam, Manie Miller, Irene Childress, and Elizabeth Medlin.
She is survived by her son, Michael Dykes and wife, Kathleen, Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren, Erik Dykes and wife, LaNita, and Rachel K. Dykes; sisters, Margaret Bedford, and Ruth Shankles, both of Kingsport; brother, Flem H. Pecktol and wife, Bessie, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Wes Rankin officiating.
