Ralph Murphy Nelson

Ralph Murphy Nelson, Sr., went Home to be with the Lord Friday, August 17, 2018.
Born in Kingsport, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and then also in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and football fan. He loved his family and spending time with them, he loved his country, but most of all, he loved the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Nelson; son, Anthony Matthew Nelson; three sisters, June Luster, Yvonne Rice, and Charleen Mellons; and parents, Arthur Lee and Reba Holmes (Barker) Nelson.
Ralph is survived by his three daughters, Ramona and Dave Dales, Ruth Ann Nelson, Amelia Nelson Caldwell,; two sons, Scott Nelson and wife, Audrea and Ralph Nelson, Jr. and wife Christy; twelve grandchildren, Nashua Johnson, Tara and Dallas Dales, Rachel Munkus, Sean Roberson, Brandon Caldwell, Tyler and Peyton Nelson, Chloe and Carter Nelson and Cooper Morelock, Kenleigh Barger; brother, Wallace Reed (Foot) Nelson; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff of CLC on the campus of the V.A. Medical Center for their excellent care of him this past decade. They are an extended part of the family
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor David Luster officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Posts 3/265.
