Tommy Sherfey went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Sullivan County August 14, 1941 and graduated from Fall Branch High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army for two years. Tom retired from Eastman Chemical Company. After his retirement he worked for La Quinta Inn. He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his father, Ralph Sherfey; a brother, Ronnie Sherfey; and his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Sherfey, Blountville; a daughter, Tamara Benton and husband Greg, Asheville, NC; son, Mike Sherfey and wife Jada, Jackson, TN.; special grandsons, Jordan Benton-Harrison and Houston Sherfey; mother, Opal Sherfey; two brothers, Lynes Sherfey and wife Gerry, Kingsport, Gene Sherfey and wife Gail, Piney Flats; three sisters, Carolyn Watts and husband Junior, Kingsport, Yvonne Morrell and husband Danny, Kingsport, Dianna Kress and husband Malcolm, Gray, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Services will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr.Gene Lasley and Minister Brandon Canter officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military graveside conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post 3382 of the V.F.W.
Pallbearers will be David Thompson, Aubrey Price, Danny Morrell, Junior Watts, Shelburne Ferguson, Jose Soto-Rios and Bill Wheeler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Gay, Greg Benton, David Morelock, John McKenzie and Clint Grubb.
