Ray H. Carter, 83, of West Carters Valley, Church Hill, passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday, October 1, 2015. Born in Scott County, VA, he was the son of the late Ewell Wesley and Martha Littrell Carter. Ray served in the US Navy as a Jet Mechanic for over 20 years. He truly loved his work as a volunteer with West Carters Valley Ruritan, the American Red Cross, and the Carter Fold. Ray also attended Freedom Baptist Church. He was full of life and love and filled any room he entered with joy and laughter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorene Stanley Carter; one daughter, Sheree Ray Carter Huff and husband, Charles; one granddaughter, Christie Lee Huff, all of the home; one sister, Marlene Carter Kindle and husband, Frank, of Kingsport; three brothers, James Carter and wife Marie, of Church Hill, Ralph Carter, and Danny Carter and wife Helen, all of Mt. Carmel; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and other staff at Holston Valley Medical Center.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
