Ray Monroe Compton, Jr., 68, passed away April 24, 2011. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, was a carpenter by trade, and was a life long resident of Washington County, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Monroe Compton II and Estell Gardner Compton; son, Ray Buddy Monroe Compton III; two sisters, Cleo Ward and Sue Bishop; and two brothers, Donald Carl Compton and Sammy Lee Compton.
Ray is survived by his wife of 47 years, Fannie Gregg Compton; two sons, Daniel Compton and Michael Compton and wife Peggy; two step-sons, who he loved as his own, Craig Carroll and Dewey Hashbarger; sisters, Jewell Compton, Marie Compton Smith and husband Jack, Patricia Compton Ward and husband Roger; two brothers, Lonnie Pud Compton, Ricky Compton and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, Issac Hashbarger, Trever Compton, Cody Compton, Jerome Ramey; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will received friends on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Gregg's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Charles Byrd and Rev. Eddie McAmis officiating. Burial will follow at Bacon-Kincheloe Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 3/265.
Pallbearers will be the members of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 979 Kingsport, TN. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Hashbarger, Jeff Ford, Josh Sherfey, Tony Gregg, Terry Gregg, Ricky Ramey, Josh Crawford, and Derick Melancon.
