Ray O. Doran, 83, of the Bloomingdale Community, was called home Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Ray was born in Sullivan County where he had resided for most of his life. He worked at the Kingsport Press and later for the U. S. Postal Service from which he retired after 30 years service.
Ray was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lola Doran; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ross and Pearl Powers.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joan Moneyhun Doran of the home; children, Vicky and Tim Cartwright of Kingsport, Bev and Rob Barrett of Suffolk, VA, and Mike and Karen Doran of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Amanda Cartwright, Travis Barrett, Rachel and Kelvin Kimbler, Drake Doran, and Michayla Doran; and one niece, Lola Jean McCoy.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bloomingdale Baptist Church. Services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with memorial rites conducted by the American Legion Posts No. 3/265.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and deacons of Bloomingdale Baptist Church.
