Earnest Ray Hartsock, 94, of Blountville, TN, went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2024, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born to Claude and Della Hartsock in Grassy Creek, VA, Ray was one of twelve children and was deeply rooted in his family and faith throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his four brothers Ralph, Guy, John, and Claude Junior, and his sister Maudie. He is also preceded by his only daughter, Ronda Davis, her husband Rodney Davis, grandson Brad Davis, and great-granddaughter Lily Otis.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Myra Doris; sons Ricky (Donna), Randy, and Robbie (Rhonda); six sisters, Shirley, Phyllis, Judy, Polly, Linda and Patricia. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren; Aaron, Amanda, Jerica, Justin, Erica, Emily and Elizabeth, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and special friends.
A longtime resident of the Gunnings Community, Ray was a member of Gunnings Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he also served as a deacon. His favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6, guided his life and exemplified his deep trust in the Lord. Ray will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, dedicated to both God and his family.
Ray had a distinguished career as a long-haul truck driver, working for Air Products, Mason Dixon and retiring from Consolidated Freight. He was a proud Army veteran, having served in Japan for two years. Ray was an avid automobile enthusiast with a special affinity for Fords, a NASCAR racing fan, and who also enjoyed gardening and beekeeping.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Gunnings Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Bob Ferguson officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of the Last Supper, with Military Rites presented by American Legion Post #3/265.
Pallbearers will be Justin Hartsock, Larry Horne, Aaron Hartsock, Tim Pullon, Ray Moody, Aaron Gibson, and Mike Skeen.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have shared in their grief and celebration of Ray’s remarkable life. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Special recognition and gratitude is also extended to Ray’s home-based primary healthcare provided by the VA, for the excellent care given to him and to his medical team at BRMC, especially his nurses on the 4th floor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Volunteer Seedline Publication at Gunnings Baptist Church, 199 Shipley Ferry Road, Blountville, TN 37617.
