Ray Herbert Amyx, 89, Kingsport, passed away peacefully at home early Sunday morning, March 18, 2018. Ray was born in the Church Hill area and had lived in the Bloomingdale area for most of his life. He was a heavy equipment operator for Tri Cities Paving Company. Ray was an avid trout fisherman, enjoyed flea markets and his CB radio, where his handle was Dodgeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nora Way Amyx; wife, Iva Christan Amyx; sons, Ray and Kenneth; daughter, Regina Hawkins; 2 grandchildren, Brent Byington and Victoria Hawkins; 4 brothers, Frank, John, Dan and Carl; and 2 sisters, Ann and Louise.
Ray is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon and husband, TJ Jones, and Debbie Byington and Steve Shockley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Margaret and Joyce; 2 brothers, Fred and wife, Jean Amyx, and Ralph and wife, Peggy Amyx; daughter-in-law, Debbie B. Amyx; several nieces and nephews; and his 4-legged companion,"Grandpa".
The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. David Salley officiating. Burial will follow in Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery.
