Ray Hurd, 95, went to be with the Lord and his wife of 67 years Friday, November 28, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center
He was born in Church Hill in the part which is now Kingsport and resided there all his life. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps; 78th Fighter Control Squadron. He served in Italy and Africa.
Ray retired from Lyle Construction Company where he was a supervisor then went onto being a locksmith for many years. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel for 82 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Louise A. Hurd, his parents, brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two sons Dana Hurd and Pat Hurd and wife, Kay; granddaughter: Ashley Hurd; grandson: Marcus Hutchison, several nieces, nephews and a host of other family members.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Service will follow at 8 p.m. with Dr. Randy Pressnell officiating. A Military graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery by Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee National Guard.
