Raymond Conkin, 71, Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly Saturday December 8, 2007.

Raymond was a loving husband, Dad, and Papaw. He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and working on his farm. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He retired from Eastman in 1987. He was a 50-year member of Johnson Lodge #274 Free and Accepted Masons, Fall Branch, having received his 50 year certificate this year. He was also a member of the Washington Chapter #57 Order of the Eastern Star.

Raymond was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church for 61 years. He was a member of the Senior Adult Men?s Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bernice Conkin.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Ruth Conkin, of the home; daughter, Ramona Strong and husband, Jeff, Kingsport; son, Ray Conkin and wife, Maria, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Tyler and Sarah Strong, Mollie, Abbey, and Annie Kate Conkin; sister, Jeanette Flemister and husband, Carl, Little Rock, AR; brothers, Roger Conkin and wife, Sue Ann, Kingsport, Mike Conkin and wife, Linda, Kingsport, and Anthony Conkin and wife, Joyce, Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sullivan Baptist Church. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Strong, Jim Brant, Bill Thurman, Orville Cox, Richard Bourn, Howard Cox, Harrison Conkin, Jr., and Toy Earl Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Men?s Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sullivan Baptist Church, 4152 Maplewood Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
