Raymond Galyon

James Raymond (Raymond) Galyon, 85, of Kingsport, passed on to God's embrace on Friday, January 30, 2015.

Born in Roane Co., Mr. Galyon graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1949 where he lettered on football teams from 1946-1948. These teams compiled a 41-1 record and won 3 State Championships. Raymond was an avid Dobyns-Bennett and UT supporter and a fan for many years. He devoted his professional life to Oakwood Markets serving as Manager and Vice President. Mr. Galyon played a prominent role in establishing the international stature and reputation of the Annual Santa Claus Train from its early days in the '40's until he retired from Oakwood Markets in 1994. He was an invaluable member of several civic organizations as well. He is prominently displayed on the mural located in downtown Kingsport, which depicts past city leaders and honored citizens.

Mr. Galyon is survived by sons: Lt Col Mike Galyon, USAF (Ret), of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark Galyon, of Kingsport, TN, and Matt Galyon, Mason, OH; two grand-daughters, Joni Phillips and Becky Fuqua, of Kingsport, TN; one grand-son James Galyon, of Oklahoma City, OK; and three great-grandchildren. His parents, John W. Galyon and Debbie Caldwell Galyon, preceded him, as well as, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

One sister, Edna Parker, survives.

In accordance with Mr. Galyon's wishes, his body has been donated to Restore Life USA. A Celebration of Life will occur at a date to be announced later in the year upon completion of service to his fellow man through medical research. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 505 Dale St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
