Raymond Jennings Duncan, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 22, 2017. Mr. Duncan was born and raised in Brumley Gap, in Washington County, VA, where he went to school with the young lady who would eventually become his bride of 65 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Greendale High School in Abingdon, VA, and a 1948 graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, VA. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War, and it was during this time that he married Eva Inez McCroskey.
After leaving the Air Force, he moved to Kingsport, TN in 1955, where he began a job with Eastman Kodak (then Tennessee Eastman Company), which would last for 32 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Treasurer, and several other service positions over the years.
Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his father George W. Duncan; mother Madge Duncan Lilly; stepfather I.J. Lilly; sister Vivian Lee; son-in-law Phillip Lane Leonard; two step-brothers Dayton Lilly and Seaton Lilly and wife Pearl; and brothers-in law Jack Lee and Fletcher Holmes.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor, Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife Inez McCroskey Duncan; daughter Donna Rae Leonard of Bristol, VA and her son Brandon Lane Leonard of Washington, DC; son Randall (Randy) Jennings Duncan and wife, Angela Rose Duncan, of Kingsport and their daughters Stephanie Rae Duncan and Lauren Rose Duncan; sisters Ruby Holmes and Levonda McDaniel of Abingdon, VA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 25, from 1:00-2:00, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Kingsport. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kaye Florence officiating. Those wishing to attend the burial will travel to Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, VA following the service. Pallbearers will be selected from nephews and cousins.
