Raymond L. Scism

Raymond L. Scism, 74, of Blountville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday morning, September 19, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center, with his family by his side. Born in Church Hill, he spent most of his life in Sullivan County. Raymond retired from TPI in Gray after 48 years of service. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church most of his life. Raymond was a farmer and loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed watching western movies. Raymond was a simple man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Scism.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, April Carberry and husband Terry of Jonesborough; one special grandson, Justin Carberry; two sisters, Pat Rutherford and husband Jack of Blountville, and Gini Dishner of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and hunting buddy, Johnny Ford of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 2116 Shipley Ferry Rd., Blountville, TN 37617. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Randy Shupe and Rev. Scott Cunningham officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and/or Bethel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2116 Shipley Ferry Rd., Blountville, TN 37617.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff that provided care at Ballad Health Hospice, and also friends and family that provided friendship and food.
