R.D. Coltharp Jr

R.D. Coltharp Jr., passed away Tuesday morning, August 20, 2013, at Indian Path Medical Center. Born October 2, 1923 in Loudon, TN, he was a Veteran of WWII where he was a pilot with the US Army Air Corps. After military service he attended the University of Tennessee. He moved to Johnson City in 1960 where he established the Tri City Blood Service, working there until retiring in 1988.

It's been said we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. As for those who knew him, he certainly made a life. R.D. was a great husband, father, and grandfather with love for his church and fellow man. He taught Sunday school for many years as a member of First United Methodist Church in Church Hill, TN. What a great example for living.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. Coltharp Sr. and Sallie Fleenor Coltharp and his sister, Lucile Coltharp Wilson.

R.D. is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettie Daniel Coltharp; daughter, Lore Coltharp Scandlyn and husband, Lance; son, John Allen Coltharp and wife, Candace; grandchildren, Dylan and wife, Mandy, David, Callie, and Elizabeth Coltharp Reed and husband, Alex; great-grandchildren, Kinley Scandlyn and Natalie Reed; niece, Ceda Dudley Hambrick and husband, Mike; and nephew, Rob Wilson and wife, Jane.
