Reba Sproles Thayer of Kingsport passed away at her home at Asbury Place Baysmont on Thursday, March 28, 2013.
Born in Kingsport, Reba was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving in different leadership capacities.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence W. Thayer, her parents Bertha and Charles Sproles, and her sister Geneva Sproles Brown and brother-in-law Dr. J. Samuel Brown. Surviving are one son, Timothy L. Thayer of Kingsport, two daughters Marcy Thayer and Dawn Salyer, both of Chattanooga; one granddaughter, Sara Salyer; two grandsons, Evan Anderson, and Elliott Anderson and wife Talia; great grandchildren Taylor Anderson and Owen Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. The joy in her later life came from her great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Asbury Place, and special friends Joyce and Ed McClain who provided dedicated care and support of Reba over the past two years.
Reba requested to be cremated. A private inurnment will be scheduled at a later date.
